MENTORING MOMENT: Ode to the Old Year. I have always looked at January 1st as more sacred than the other 364 dates on the calendar. There is indeed something magical about an official new beginning. The old year tends to end for many with a deeply felt "good riddance" and they run, like track stars, toward the new annum, never glancing back. It is no wonder that resolving to "change things up" is a goal that equates to big business for multiple industries. But maybe we are putting too much pressure on 2022, and ourselves, by thinking this way. I will be the first to admit that there have been years that I could not wait to bid adieu. But when I ponder those times, at a safer distance, I see that each was critically important to my personal growth. So instead of sprinting from one vintage to the next, with reckless abandon, let's take a pause (even just a quick one). Let's take some time to consider what we should carry with us into the bright unknown--those things that challenged us, that made us more humble, and more human. As we begin this new year, filled with hope and promise, let's be a tad less disdainful of the one that just passed, knowing it was a unique chapter in the story of our lives. #newyear
