Mentoring Moment: Measuring Success. The women celebrating her birthday in this video (my mother) is an unlikely subject for a LinkedIn post. She never went to college. She didn’t hold fulltime employment or drive a car until well into her 40s. She has famously resisted technology and has a hard time even turning on her TV. But what she has achieved is worthy of note. She raised 7 children, largely solo. She is "Grammy" to 19 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is a woman of faith that has prayed for most everyone I know, at least once. A few years ago, I was deposing a man from my hometown. During a break, he mentioned seeing my mom at mass every morning and that her smile "lights up the whole church." As I watch this video and remember that compliment, it is clear she has accomplished what alludes many, if not most. And like all true triumphs, it didn't just happen. She made it happen--one day, one smile at a time. So, as I look toward 2021 and beyond, I will take a page from my mother's book on life and strive, first and foremost, to succeed as a human being.
Beautiful post and video! Your mother is the true definition of resilient. An 2021 inspiration for sure. ❤️
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Weaver. If the character of your children is a measure of your parenting, you did really well.
That is so wonderful
Amazing, Bernadette! Her profound impact on you comes through in everything you do. Origin stories explain a lot!
What an amazing woman!
Beautiful.
Moms are the best. Especially moms of seven children. She taught you well - you are definitely succeeding as a human being.
Beautiful ❤️
What a lovely tribute to your Mum. I have never had the privilege to meet her and always hoped that I maybe would. Having heard so much about her, and how devoted she is to you all, you are all truly blessed to have her as such a strong matriarchal figure in your lives! I know she has prayed for my daughter often and I’m so grateful for that! Not sure why...but I felt emotional reading this. I think it’s because as women we have to do often find strength we really feel we don’t have. But somehow we find it. Those of us who’ve had strong loving mothers have been lucky to have this strength passed through us and beyond in all that we do.
Happy Birthday Bernice!!! That smile will be passed down through generations in your family. During these crazy times it is great to remember simple kindness to others, one smile at a time, is so important.
